karenina has always loved art and rather arrogantly believed that she was quite good - for a five year-old, and felt her opinion had validity when her teacher admired her work (a garden drawn with oil pastels if memory serves correctly). she first started painting with oils when she was twelve and has enjoyed working with them ever since. preferring figurative art, she tends to paint people or animals. her work hangs in homes in the uk, new zealand and the usa.... more
her current passion is painting japanese geisha. geisha’s serve quite a long apprenticeship to become graceful, enigmatic entertainers who move like cats, hidden behind their white masks.
karenina is the course co-ordinator for the seasons art class (scotland) and currently runs classes in aberdeen, edinburgh and glasgow. she loves sharing her knowledge with people who are interested in learning about painting and drawing. she divides her time between the classroom and the studio and enjoys interacting with people. painting can be a solitary occupation!
